The Office of the Special Commissioner of Investigation for the New York City School District (“SCI”) is seeking a Deputy Commissioner. Under the direct supervision of the Special Commissioner and the First Deputy Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner will have great latitude for independent decision-making and will provide head-of-office duties and responsibilities in the absence of the Commissioner and First Deputy.  The Deputy Commissioner will supervise and perform complex legal and investigative activity, and will develop, promote, and supervise multifaceted criminal and administrative investigations.  Other  responsibilities include, but are not limited to: litigation research, briefing, and practice on behalf of the agency, representing the office in inter-agency conferences, legal proceedings, and administrative hearings.  The Deputy Commissioner will review DOE programs, review investigative memoranda to determine completeness and accuracy; draft complex SCI investigative reports, draft and review subpoenas and other legal documents; research and analyzing documents related to investigations to determine governing rules and applicable laws; conduct witness interviews; make policy and procedure recommendations to the DOE; and work jointly with various prosecutors’ offices and other investigative and administrative agencies.  The successful candidate may also be assigned additional administrative responsibilities as needed by the office.

HYBRID OFFICE / REMOTE WORK SCHEDULE AVAILABLE AFTER INITIAL TRAINING PERIOD.
