Today, the Association of Inspectors General (AIG) issued an open letter supporting legislation to establish an independent Rhode Island Office of Inspector General.
In the letter, AIG President Will Fletcher applauds the Rhode Island General Assembly for advancing legislation to create an independent, nonpartisan Office of Inspector General and expresses AIG's willingness to assist Rhode Island leaders in establishing the new office.
"For 30 years, AIG has worked to advance government integrity and accountability and to promote excellence among Offices of Inspector General," Fletcher wrote. "We offer our assistance and counsel in any way the Assembly or the Governor determines appropriate to help establish and stand up this office for the people of Rhode Island."
As the leading professional association representing inspectors general and oversight professionals, AIG has extensive experience supporting the development and continued advancement of independent oversight offices at the federal, state, and local levels.
The Association looks forward to supporting Rhode Island's efforts to establish an effective, independent Office of Inspector General that strengthens accountability, transparency, and public trust in government.
