JOB OPPORTUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT

(not a State of Florida position)

The State of Florida’s Financial Services Commission is seeking an Inspector General to be based in the Tallahassee office of Citizens Property Insurance Corporation (Citizens). Citizens is the State of Florida’s legislatively-created insurer providing windstorm and general property insurance to Floridians who are entitled to, but are unable to find, adequate windstorm and property insurance coverage in the private market. Citizens is funded by policyholder premiums and, additionally, if its surplus is depleted in the wake of a particularly devastating storm or series of storms, by assessments on most Florida property-casualty insurance policyholders until any deficit is eliminated. These financial responsibilities drive the Financial Service Commission’s expectation to ensure Citizens practices sound financial management.

This senior leadership position reports to the Chair of Citizens’ Board of Governors and leads the Citizens Office of Inspector General. The Office of Inspector General is responsible for providing the central coordination point for activities that promote accountability, integrity, and efficiency within Citizens. The Inspector General initiates, directs, coordinates, participates in, and performs audits, reviews, evaluations, studies, and investigations designed to assess management practices; compliance with laws, rules, and policies; and Citizens’ program effectiveness and efficiency. The Inspector General will work in partnership with Citizens’ Chief of Internal Audit and Citizens’ Compliance and Ethics Officer to accomplish its mission.

Required experience and education include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and eight years of professional experience related to the duties of an inspector general, five of which must have been at a supervisory level, preferably in progressively responsible senior leadership positions. Hiring preference will be afforded to candidates with Certified Inspector General, Certified Fraud Examiner, or similar certifications and designations coupled with property and casualty insurance work experience.
