The Beat Goes on…Austin Training Conference Another Terrific Event

I am please to report that our 2017 annual training conference at the Austin Airport Hilton Hotel November 15-17, 2017, was a tremendous success!  After more than two years of planning, it was extremely gratifying to see that all of our hard work paid off. Thank you Texas!

All IGs knows that they must continually demonstrate that their offices’ audits and investigations add value by actually deterring and detecting fraud, waste, abuse and corruption, and promoting economy, efficiency and effectiveness in government. Similar, we at the Association need to prove to our members that we add value. We do that, in part, by providing high quality programs at our conference/training events.

Clearly, the word is out within the inspector general community that our conference/training events are excellent.  During our three days in Austin, more than 250 attendees attended 24 different cutting edge presentations and breakout sessions on important topics affecting the broad IG Community.

The attendees came from a broad cross section of federal, state, local, and military OIGs located throughout the United States, and also included future IG professionals enrolled in the John Jay College of Criminal Justice Master of Public Administration Inspection and Oversight program. We were also especially pleased to welcome attendees from Canada, Jamaica, Ukraine and Ivory Coast, as we are actively working to expand our international affiliations.

Staging the event at the airport hotel was part of our conscious effort to keep costs affordable. Our registration fees were approximately 30% lower than many other conferences and training events that serve government employees. Even with a tight budget, we were able to offer an outstanding lineup of speakers and activities at a first-rate venue.

We thank the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (THHSC) Office of Inspector General for its support of the training conference; THHSC Deputy Inspector General Roland Luna for his excellent presentation on accountability and positive change, and his steady hand as the conference MC; Ray Acuna, the TX AIG Chapter President, and the entire Local Texas Planning Committee for their hard work and hospitality; and finally we thank our Exhibitors who helped underwrite the costs.

We now turn our attention to next year’s conference to be held in Chicago from October 23-25, 2018. The hotel sales manager has promised us great weather! Hope to see you there!
