The Texas Chapter of the Association of Inspectors General (AIG) and the Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) hosted the 2017 national AIG conference in November in the music capital of the world, Austin, Texas. The Local Planning Committee (LPC) of the Texas Chapter with help from AIG coordinated the event.

They say it “takes a village” to accomplish great things. Through the course of two years, the LPC committee volunteers worked after hours to plan and address all details of the event. Texas HHS Deputy Inspector General, Roland Luna, ensured that the agenda provided quality training applicable to both state and federal Inspectors General from across the country. Texas Chapter and AIG members reached out to presenters and exhibitors throughout the IG community.  One of the results was we established a relationship with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners whose international headquarters is in Austin, Texas. The AIG and ACFE agreed to collaborate by having the ACFE participate in the upcoming Annual Training Events as an exhibitor and potentially as a presenter.

Texas Chapter President Ray Acuña led the LPC to ensure that all attendees, presenters, and exhibitors had a pleasant and meaningful experience. It was a success. Organizing this event brought to light the best resource the AIG has – its members! It does indeed “take a village”.
