How To: Practical Tips for IGs
This year’s Fall Conference theme is “How To: Practical Tips for IGs”, which will include a variety of speakers from the IG community during the main conference as well as a pre-conference workshop for performance auditors.
The main conference (20 CPEs) topics will include “How To:”
· Work with Community Leaders
· Use Law School Students
· Use Mobile Devices in Investigations
· Investigate a Shakedown
· Work with the US Attorney’s Office
· Use Social Media
· Use Electronic Workpapers
· Use Geomapping Software
*A catered lunch will be served to attendees on Wednesday and Thursday as well as a catered dinner on Thursday
The pre-conference day (7 CPEs) will be a hands-on workshop on conducting evaluations and performance audits. It will be led by George Grob (President, Center for Public Program Evaluation; Deputy IG, Office of Evaluations, Fed Housing Finance Agency), Lise Valentine Ph.D. (Deputy IG for Audit and Program Review, City of Chicago OIG) and Sarah Fontenelle Ph.D. (Evaluator, New Orleans OIG). Topics include:
- Evaluation Essentials
- Identifying objectives and questions
- Selecting analytic methods and data gathering techniques
- Analyzing data
- Formulating findings and recommendations
- Preparing the report outline
- Interviewing Essentials
- WHYs and WHENs of Sampling
