An important reminder to all Association of Inspectors General members that our July 1st deadline is fast approaching. This is of particular significance to holders of CIG™, CIGI™, or CIGA™ certifications, as the AIG board recently instituted a new policy that requires active membership in order to maintain certification. For more information on this new policy, follow the following link.
At its annual meeting in October 2013 in New Orleans, the Association’s Board of Directors adopted a new policy regarding maintaining certifications for the Certified Inspector General ® (CIG), Certified Inspector General Auditor® (CIGA), and Certified Inspector General Investigator® (CIGI). In order to keep your certification in “active” status, you must be a member of the AIG and also verify the completion of 40 Continuing Professional Education credits every two years.

At the May 16, 2012 AIG Board of Directors meeting in Anaheim, CA, the Board adopted a resolution calling for a vote on a proposed Bylaw change that will eliminate the requirement that the two annual Board meetings both be held live and in person. If the Board adopts the proposed amendment at its next meeting to be held on October 10, 2012 in Clearwater, FL, only the Annual Board Meeting, held after the Board of Director elections, currently at the fall conference, must be conducted live and in-person; and there will be an option to hold the second Board meeting electronically.
Below is the proposed Bylaw change to be voted on:
Article VII, Section 6. Conference Telephone Meetings.
Members of any board or committee of the Association may participate in a meeting of such committee, except for the two (2) first regular meetings of the Board of Directors, which coincides with the Annual Meeting of Members, provided for in Article IV, section 8, conducted by means of a conference telephone or similar communications equipment allowing all persons participating in the meeting to hear one another at the same time. Participation by such means shall constitute presence in person at a meeting.
Melinda Miguel, President, Association of Inspectors General
I’m pleased to report that the 2012 Winter Institute held in Clearwater, FL was a tremendous success. Thank you to all of the investigators, auditors, members, instructors, staff and volunteers who participated. We had a total of 61 attendees: 17 for the Certified Inspector General Auditor program and 44 for the Certified Inspector General Investigator program. Our certification programs for auditors and investigators are recognized as being essential within the inspector general community, and the demand for our training has never been stronger. Our next Institute is scheduled for the West Palm Beach, FL area in August 2012. Please spread the word.
As winter is coming to an end, the Association is working hard on planning more high-quality events scheduled for the coming months. Our next event will be our Spring Conference in Anaheim, CA in May. We have a very exciting and dynamite speakers list, and the conference promises to provide a wonderful opportunity for our members to connect with their peers. For more information please check out our website. I am positive that our Anaheim Conference will provide an excellent opportunity for your personal and professional development.
Volunteers are the heart of the AIG. Your Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and local Chapter officers commit their expertise and untold hours of effort in helping to build our organization. It is truly rewarding to have the opportunity to serve and feel part of this team.
I hope to see you in Anaheim.
As always, your feedback is welcome. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Together – we make a difference.
