Attendee/General FAQs
Q: When is the conference this year?
A: We are excited to announce the 2023 Association of Inspectors General (AIG) Annual Training Conference: Innovation & The Future of Oversight, will be October 4 -6, 2023. Please explore the conference website for additional information.
Q: Where is the conference this year?
A: The conference will be held at the iconic New Yorker Hotel in New York City this year! All attendees are responsible for making their own hotel reservations, the hotel is not included in the conference pricing. Please note that AIG block rate for the hotel ends on September 8, 2023, so be sure to book your hotel before this date to guarantee the conference rate. Q: Who is speaking this year?
A: There is an impressive three-day lineup of speakers! Click here for the conference agenda (current as of August 23, 2023).
Q: Can I register for a single session? A day? Multiple days?
A: There are daily and whole conference rates but you cannot register for a single session. Please see the registration information on the conference website for additional information.
Q: Will there be CPE or CLE credits given?
A: Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Credits: Attendees may be eligible to receive up to 19 CPE credits depending on the final agenda, attendance verification and meeting all NASBA requirements. For a detailed breakdown of CPE credits, please contact AIG Program Director Michael Castrilli at mjcastrilli@inspectorsgeneral.org.
Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Credits: AIG is working to obtain New York CLE credit for several presentations. The application for New York accreditation of this program is currently pending. Additional information will be forthcoming.
Q: What if I want to be an exhibitor at the conference?

Q: What is the Association of Inspectors General? How do I join?
A: AIG is a professional, non-profit organization that supports and advances the professionalism and integrity of Inspectors General offices. AIG serves as a civic, educational, charitable, and benevolent organization for the exchange of ideas, information, education, knowledge, and training among municipal, local, state, national and international Inspectors General. Hotel/Location FAQs
Q: How do I book my hotel?
A: The conference will be held at the iconic New Yorker Hotel and a block of rooms have been reserved for conference attendees. All attendees are responsible for making their own hotel reservations, the hotel is not included in the conference pricing. Please note that AIG block rate for the New Yorker ends on September 8, 2023, so be sure to book your hotel before this date to guarantee the conference rate. Additional booking information can be found here. If the New Yorker sells out of rooms you will be responsible for locating alternate accommodations.
Q: Is there parking at the hotel?
A: The hotel does not have a parking garage; however, self-parking is available at a discounted rate. Please visit the hotel FAQ for additional information on where to park and how to validate your parking ticket for the discounted rate.
Q: Is there a policy on outside food/beverages during the conference?
A: Yes, the property is a Union organization and does not allow outside food or beverages (other than unbranded liquid containers or branded water bottles). If you are observed with outside food/beverages hotel and conference staff will ask you to discard it. The hotel will assess a fine for multiple infractions of their policy so please do not bring outside food or beverages. Beverages will be available to all attendees throughout the day; additionally, breakfast, lunch and snacks will be available during the conference.
Speaker FAQs
Pre-Event Speaker Questions
Q: What date/time am I scheduled to present?
A: Please review the current agenda for your presentation date and time (current as of August 23, 2023). For those speakers that have identified particular dates and times, we have done our best to accommodate your requests. If you have any questions about your schedule, please reach out to AIG Speaker Committee Cochair Monica J. Stamm at mstamm@mtaig.org to discuss specific requirements.
Q: Will I earn CPEs for preparing and presenting?
A: For information related to CPEs, please contact AIG Program Director Michael Castrilli at mjcastrilli@inspectorsgeneral.org.
Q: Will I earn CLEs for preparing and presenting?
A: AIG is working to obtain New York CLE credit for several presentations. The application for New York accreditation of this program is currently pending. Additional information will be forthcoming.
Q: Will AIG reimburse me (lodging, airfare, meals and incidentals) for presenting?
A: AIG does not offer honorarium, conference registration waivers, or gratis hotel stays for speakers. This is not because AIG does not appreciate the expertise and time of speakers, but that the cost of such a policy is prohibitive for the organization.
Presentation Questions
Q: Can I extend my presentation beyond 50 minutes?
A: Unfortunately, we only offer timeslots of 50 minutes. Please keep this timing in mind, especially if you consider offering an attendee question and answer period during your presentation.
Q: What A/V equipment will be available?
A: Laptops (with your slideshow preloaded) and microphones with be available in each conference room. Please contact AIG Logistics Committee Cochair Erin Schultz at eschultz@doi.nyc.gov to discuss other presentation needs (current as of August 23, 2023).
Q: Do you support both PC and MAC?
A: We ask that you do not plan on using your own laptop for presentations. Your presentation will be preloaded in an AIG laptop located in each conference room that the audio/visual equipment will be directed through. Please do not plan to plug in any alternate devices, including USB or others to the AIG laptop as the audio/video may be disrupted.
Q: Will my presentation be recorded?
A: No, the presentation will not be recorded.
Q: Who will have copies of my presentation?
A: Presentations will be used by AIG during your presentation and available to attendees both during and after the conference via the conference website available via browser or mobile device.
Q: Will there be media in attendance?
A: No, media will not be in attendance unless otherwise invited as part of a presentation.
Speaker Event Questions
Q: Are speakers invited to attend the other sessions occurring on the day of their presentation? Are they invited to attend the conference?
A: Unregistered speakers are welcome to attend the morning or afternoon session(s) adjacent to their presentation. If a speaker would like to attend additional sessions, they must register for the conference. AIG does not offer honorarium, conference registration waivers, or gratis hotel stays for speakers. This is not because AIG does not appreciate the expertise and time of speakers, but that the cost of such a policy is prohibitive for the organization.
Q: Are speakers invited to attend meals?
A: Speakers may attend the breakfast or lunch meal scheduled adjacent to their presentation.
Q: Is there space to warm up/wait before my presentation?
A: Please contact AIG Logistics Committee Cochair Erin Schultz at eschultz@doi.nyc.gov to discuss your pre-presentation needs.
Q: What happens if an unforeseen event occurs and I am unable to present?
A: Please reach out to AIG Speaker Committee Cochair Monica J. Stamm at mstamm@mtaig.org as soon as practicable.
Q: I am not attending the full conference; who will I need to coordinate with on the day of my presentation?
A: If you are not a conference attendee, a member from the Logistics Committee will reach out to you prior to the conference to coordinate.
Q: I am not attending the full conference; how early do I need to arrive in advance of my presentation?
A: Please be prepared to arrive a minimum of 60 minutes in advance of your presentation time. A member of the Speaker or Logistics Committee will reach out to you to discuss specific timing and meeting locations.
Q: Will AIG pay for my hotel parking on the day of my presentation?
A: Please contact AIG Executive Director Greg Hill at ghill@inspectorsgeneral.org for more information.
Q: Will AIG pay for my transportation (i.e. Uber/Lyft) to/from the conference?
A: Please contact AIG Executive Director Greg Hill at ghill@inspectorsgeneral.org for more information.
Q: Will Wi-Fi be available before/during my presentation?
A: Yes, the conference will have Wi-Fi available.
Speaker Nonpartisan Acknowledgement Form
Q: What is the purpose of the Nonpartisan Acknowledgement Form?
A: The purpose of the form is to ensure each conference speaker is aware of, acknowledges and agrees to abide by AIG’s position of nonpartisanship during any block of instruction or event. The form is necessary to safeguard against any potential partisan discourse during the conference that would compromise the nonpartisanship of the IG community – intentionally or inadvertently.
Q: Do I have to complete the Nonpartisan Acknowledgement Form?
A: Yes, it is mandatory that each speaker acknowledge and indicate their agreement to adhere to AIG policy of nonpartisanship and independence. Please ensure that you have submitted an electronically signed AIG’s Nonpartisan Acknowledgement Form by clicking here or pasting this link into your browser https://forms.office.com/r/aAx5P3p76S by Friday, September 8, 2023.
Q: Who needs to sign the form?
